Blog Tour – ‘Learning to Love’ by Sheryl Browne

Romantic Heroes Banner

For the past fortnight Safkhet Publishing and Sheryl Browne have been celebrating Sheryl’s romance collection.  As part of this blog tour I was asked to review ‘Learning to Love’.

Learning to Love

Dr David Adams has recently moved to Hibberton with his ten year old son, Jake.  After the recent death of his wife, David decided to start afresh in a new village away from local gossip.  His relationship with his son is strained, as Jake blames him for his mother’s death.  If only David could get through to him.

Andrea Kelly has a really busy life.  She works, has three children, plus her mother to look after.  What Andrea needs is a career change, one where she can manage her time a bit better.  Jonathan, her fiancé, is less than supportive on learning about her plans and tries to talk her out of it.  Then, one night Andrea arrives home to discover much to her dismay that her house is on fire.  Luckily her children and mother have been rescued with the assistance of David.  They have no choice but to stay at David’s house until Andrea can get things sorted out.

Until now, I had never read any of Sheryl Browne’s books.  I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Learning to Love’ and wish it hadn’t finished.  I thought this novel to be very well written and was really impressed by it.  This isn’t just an average everyday romance, it deals with a number of issues including bereavement and loss of personal belongings.

Sheryl has a way of bringing her characters to life so that you feel like you know them.  Out of all of the characters I really admired Andrea.  She was one heck of a strong woman, despite everything she could still smile and have a laugh.

The picture on the cover says it all really.  David and Jake had an understandably difficult relationship, but in time and with a little bit of help they started to build bridges.  It was nice to see them getting on well together.

I give this book 5 out of 5.
